A Most Handsome Couple – A Unique Pair of Carved Tudor Oak Panels

Deeply carved, the panels show a male and female attired in the correct costume for the wealthy class of the mid 16th century.

The carver has had a good eye for detail, embellishing the clothes with ruffs, tassles, footwear and great facial features. The only aspect the carver seemed to struggle with is working out the proportions of hands, which are a little over-sized in both figures.

The carving, colour and patination are all rich and deep, the origin is England circa 1550-1570.
